Do you know that Fran McDonald and Cherry Frost both are founding members of the Pink Ladies club? The Pink Ladies are a group of individuals devoting their time, money and expertise to help comfort cancer patients living in our local communities. Cherry and Fran both are very active knitting scarves and hats for all cancer patients treated at any of the Kaiser Foundations hospitals and health care centers.
Pilar and I joined the group back in the summer, which meets once a month at Kaiser Permanente in Baldwin Park in the basement. Members are people like you and me. Amongst the members are teachers, nurses, doctors, receptionists and other Kaiser employees. There are also former patients in the group who experienced firsthand the love and care this group has to offer. Regardless, we all have in one thing in common - namely our love to fiber and our desire to help others in need. It’s a great cause, and it gives back to the community you live in. Enriching the lives of seriously ill persons and letting them know you care is beyond words. So if you would like to donate your time making a scarf or beanie for the Pink Ladies’ causes, please do so. Yarn donations are also welcome. Since “hairless” heads are very sensitive, the material you choose should be very soft and lightweight. All colors are welcomed since the hats and scarves are going to ALL cancer patients, young and old, male and female. Cancer doesn’t discriminate; it can happen to every one of us. ALL ABOUT YARN is donating FREE knitting/crochet lessons during their monthly meeting at Kaiser. Also if you purchase the yarn for your “Pink Lady” project at ALL ABOUT YARN you will receive a 10% discount, which is our thank you to you for giving towards a good cause.
